Make and Application

Part Time – June to October (Yoga Alliance 200hr)

I’m thrilled to introduce my latest Yoga Teacher Training program. This offering has evolved over time into something truly exciting. If you are ready for a Yoga Education rather than a quick fix course, then please read on.
The inspiration behind my latest program hails from a concept I shared during an interview a few years ago:

“Good teaching comes from good practicing.” It’s pretty much that simple.
This program allows time for the slow-burn, deeper integration of both theory and practice. You can expect that after 6 months of dedicated and deep learning, your yoga will never be the same and you will have the skills to be an effective teacher of others.
Even if you never plan to teach, having a dedicated yoga practice has a ripple effect that extends far beyond the mat.  Your practice alone will influence those around you. Through practice you will become a living example of balance, presence, and clarity—qualities that resonate within your home, workplace, and every aspect of your life. It’s not simply about teaching others; it’s about teaching ourselves to embody yoga’s principles in our day-to-day existence. The ability to share these teachings naturally follows from this.
Those truly committed to yoga, driven by curiosity and dedication, continue on their path of study and practice, evolving into the next generation of genuine yogis. This is why I also offer a 300-hour training and mentorship program for those who, like me, remain lifelong students of the practice.
What kind of Yoga is This?
Yoga Helix form is a beautiful flowing form can be used as a progressive, step-by-step practice, with either 5 sections for beginners, 6 to 9 sections for intermediate students and a further advanced level section and variations. It is designed as an all in one resource for learning and teaching correct yoga technique, alignment, breathing, spinal health and sequencing science. That is a big call, I know, but knowing this compact routine, is a one-stop condensation of all that is most important elements of yoga, which may then be applied to any other movement practices, including other yoga styles.
It leads, over time to the unravelling of unhealthy postural tension in the body while maintaining the essential connection, strength and stability. It is recommended that beginners move slowly and methodically, mastering the first sections one by one with a qualified teacher who has learned the methodology behind these moves. Repetition and refinement of the form over time is what brings results and fosters mental stability.
The ingredients in this movement recipe are sourced from authentic and traditional Martial traditions, as well as classical yoga forms and modern human movement science. The spiraling helix is the pattern of our DNA. It is also found in the arrangement of the body’s connective tissue known as fascial and is a major part of natural human movement. The diagonal, non-linear patterns are found in nature and also in our body and this practice explores this as a principle.
Another principle is that of traditional yoga which works from the gross outer and physical form of the body first and journeys toward the subtle energy of the “Prana body”, and then eventually beyond. By unravelling the tension of the bodies outer shell of armor we become more balanced and gain access and refined awareness of the inner spirals, and the subtle energy that moves through us.
This is a transition based smooth flow practice, the hyper-focused flow-state or “moving meditation” is built in and foolproof.
The results of regular and mindful practice are a balance of flexibility, coordination and strength. It is the intention of this to provide the dedicated practitioner of hatha yoga a framework that is sustainable in the long term and includes the full spectrum of yoga practice beyond the typical “yoga workout”. Remember that the path of yoga is one that leads us to liberation from self created bonds and suffering and the asana, breath and stillness practice is merely a tool to assist us in that journey.

Your Guide – Jim Harrington
I began my journey in yoga long before the Yoga Alliance or the 200-hour teacher training became standard. My introduction to yoga was in India in 1987 and in the Theravada Buddhist Tradition in 1992. My yoga and pranayama practice became more serious in 1995 with a 6 month sojourn in North India and my first formal teaching training was a two-year apprenticeship completed in 1999 in Sydney. I studied Naturopathy, Remedial and Sports Therapy, and have been a Physical Therapist for 25 years, teacher trainer for 20 years and was the first Yoga Alliance registered Teacher Trainer in South Africa.
A hand picked faculty of Experienced Yoga specialists and assistants will support the Program as Special Guest teachers.
The foundation of yoga is the embodiment through regular daily practice. Embarking on a yoga teacher training is much more than earning a certification. Unlike other professional qualifications based on theory, the certificate holds little weight compared to the depth that is cultivated and embodied through practice.

The journey to Yoga—a state of union, or Re-Union with the authentic self—is both a profound and a personal process. In our program, we’ll cultivate a deep personal practice while also preparing you and educating you to share these practices in a way that is safe, effective, and authentic.
As a student in this program, you will be guided individually as well as collectively in a methodical way and you will be invited to discover the next steps of your personal yoga journey.
