This seven part series is a celebration as well as a distillation of somatic practices from both Vedic and Taoist traditions, with a modern biomechanical twist which returns us to a naturally stable yet energized state.
Yoga Helix is a transitional/ flow that can be used as a progressive step-by-step practice, It leads, over time to the unravelling of unhealthy tension in the body while maintaining the useful connection and strength and stability. It is recommended that beginners move slowly and methodically, mastering the sections one by one with a qualified teacher who has learned the methodology behind these moves. Repetition and refinement of the form over time is what brings results and fosters mental stability.
The ingredients in this movement recipe are selected for the “somatic lessons” that they contain. Some ingredients are sourced from authentic Martial traditions, as well as classical yoga forms and modern human movement science. The spiraling helix is the pattern of our DNA, fascial structures and of natural human movement. It is found in nature and in our body and this practice explores this while following a principle of traditional yoga which is to work from the gross outer form of the physical body toward the subtle energy of the “Prana body”, and then eventually beyond.
By unravelling the tension of the bodies outer shell of armor we may gain access and refined awareness of the inner spirals of strength, and subtle energy that moves. As a transition based practice, the hyper-focussed flow state is built in and unavoidable. The results of regular and mindful practice are a balance of flexibility, coordination and strength.
It is the intention of this to provide the dedicated practitioner of hatha yoga a framework that is sustainable in the long term and includes the full spectrum of yoga practice beyond the typical “yoga workout”. Remember that the path of yoga is one that leads us to liberation from self created bonds and suffering and the asana, breath and stillness practice is merely a tool to assist us in that journey.
Classes will also be available online and in person, with recordings.
