This is much more than a Surf mission. For me, the rich experience of Indonesia’s diverse range of cultures is just as important as the ocean.
We chose Rote Island to celebrate a return to one of our favourite places on Planet Earth. The Iconic “T-Land” wave is a user friendly, consistant and classic Indonesian style wave. After running specialised Yoga and Surf Retreats in South Africa for the past 10 years, this will be the first Yoga and Surf adventure offered in Indonesia.
This adventure is about slowing down and getting in touch with a nature focused and an older way of living. Rote, in the far Eastern end of the Indonesian Archipelago, is one of the least developed and less crowded surfing regions.
The local people here wear smiles, and an extrodinarily ornate woven hat known as the “Rote Topi”. Timor and Rote have a special culture, which is a rich blend of Christian and ancient animist practices. Participants are encouraged to engage, connect with our hosts and enjoy their role as honoured guests.
The climate is pleasant and dry. The ocean is crystal clean and there are a variety of waves and surf spots to suit all abilities. There is the safe and easy rollers at Nembrala known as squealers, the super consistant and user friendly left known as T- land and a range of waves for everyone up to expert – Pro level. You can check the waves here.Â
